“How did you start your mobile auto locksmith business?”

“Once I decided that I wanted to be a locksmith I first chose to deal with automotive situations and that I wanted to be a 24/7 mobile auto locksmith. In order to do this I took several steps. I researched the business through the Small Business Administration. Through them I discovered that setting up a business like this would cost me from $5,000 to $10,000. I also learned where I could go to get a business loan.”

“What type of training do you need?”

“I chose technical school to learn the trade and then I apprenticed with a locksmith.”

“Then how did you start your business?”

“I secured my loan and set up a small office. Then I purchased a van since I was going to be a mobile locksmith. I used local papers, the yellow pages, and the internet to market my business as well as the side of my van. I was successful pretty much right away. Door Lock Repair Can Be Dome Easily and Inexpensively

Door Lock Repair

door lock repairI bought an older Las Vegas home a few years back. I had a new front, back and garage door put on with new locks. I left the interior doors the same. These older doors had locking devices with keys. There were six of these older doors. Over time these doors began to have issues. The doors would be locked and then could not be unlocked even with their keys. I had to rescue my daughter from the bathroom many times by unhinging the doors. That took a while and she would get pretty agitated. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on replacing these perfectly good doors or locks or listen to her cry when she got trapped in the bathroom so I learned simple door lock repair. I basically went online and found out what I needed to know.

For door lock repair you need to get a graphite pick. This tool contains graphite powder. You insert the pick into the door lock and the keyhole if there is one. You squirt the powder into the hole a few times. The interior get coated with the graphite powder. This helps turn the key or the lock. A graphite pick can be bought easily. Just don’t use WD 40 for door lock repair. It can grease your lock and then it will be too slippery for the key. Try this repair instead of replacing the door and door locks.

Being a Mobile Locksmith Can Be Fun

Mobile Locksmith

Mobile LocksmithIf you want to have an interesting job, try being a mobile locksmith. I did this job for four years while I went to school. You get the best stories when you are a mobile locksmith at night. I saw some odd situations. The best were the drunken people who locked there keys in their car and wanted you to let them in so that they could drive home. That was not going to happen. Sometimes they understood and sometimes they got pretty nasty. Then there were the fighting couples where one locked the other out of the house or apartment. This situation could always get out of hand and usually the police were called.

I liked responding to the situations where someone was locked out of their car or residence late at night and you got to let them in. That was always the moment when the mobile locksmith became the hero. Of course, you ended up meeting a lot of hysterical people this way. Being a mobile locksmith in Las Vegas meant dealing with other interesting things. I got called to unlock safes in some of the biggest homes and casinos. People keep weird things in their safes. Being a mobile locksmith does mean that you deal with all sorts of people in stressful situations so it takes more than learning how to get into locks to do the job. I recommend it because it is fascinating and because it is steady. People always lock themselves out of things.

Business Locksmith

Business LocksmithKnowing who you do business with is very important. Before I do business with a company I like to know about them and what services that they have to offer. This way I know if they will be the right fit for my needs. I recently needed lock work done at my offices in Las Vegas so I interviewed a local business locksmith.

“What type of services do you offer that makes you a specialist on the needs of a business as opposed to a homeowner?”

“As a business locksmith we cater more to the needs of what a business may need when it comes to locks and security. We deal with security systems, safe installation, file cabinet locks, gate locks, garage locks, and master locks and keys.”

“What types of lock installations do you do for businesses?”

“We handle installing security locks for office spaces. We offer master key services and lock replacement services. A business might need lock replacement services when an employee is let go. For some businesses we even handle the locks on the cars and trucks used by the business. With these types of business we deal with gate and garage locks. All businesses deal with security issues. We can come up with a security plan that can help you keep valuables, confidential materials, and the entire office secure.”

I found that not all locksmiths are equipped to deal with business locksmith related issues. Make sure the locksmith you hire to help protect your company specializes in this area.

Residential Locksmith

Residential LocksmithIn a big city like Las Vegas it is common to hear about crime. It gets splashed over the network and cable news channels all the time. Naturally, most of the crime revolves around the strip and the gambling establishments. In the outer communities we have our fair share, but we have an ally. Our local residential locksmith has come to the rescue on many occasions. You would be surprised at all the services a residential locksmith can provide. Most people know a locksmith as someone who can get you into your car or home when you are locked out. They actually can do a lot more.

A residential locksmith can also change the locks on your home or rekey a lock on your home. They can make a master key for all the locks inside your home and can provide safety locks for all your inside doors. They also can set up a safe in your home and provide lock service for that. In a lot of Las Vegas homes you will find safes. You can trust a licensed locksmith with the locks in your home. A locksmith needs certification and an apprenticeship in order to provide residential locksmith service. What Does A Locksmith Company Do

Locksmith Company

Locksmith CompanyI like to interview local businesses in Las Vegas to see what they go through to offer their services. The latest one that I looked into was a locksmith company. I have often been fascinated with the work that they do. I have also had to rely upon their services more often than I would like to admit. Here is some of the information I discovered when I spoke to an employee of the local locksmith company.

“What services do you offer to the community?”

“We offer 24/7 locksmith services. This includes emergency, residential, commercial, and auto services.”

“Explain what each of those areas entail.”

“Emergency services include lockouts of residential and commercial properties, car lockout, re-keying, lock change, repair, installation, and ignition key creation. These services always are done within thirty minutes of the call coming in. Residential services include lock changes, installation, and repairs, lock and master lock re-key, and we work on cabinet locks, high security locks, gate locks, garage door locks, and access control systems. Commercial services include the same, but also we deal with alarm systems and closed circuit TV systems. Our auto service is our most popular. Here we do emergency vehicle opening, duplicating of keys, extraction of broken keys, emergency trunk opening, and we handle transponder key chips as well. If it deals with keys and locks we can take care of whatever issue you have.”

I have learned that a locksmith company can do many things. It is one of those companies that we only think about when we have an emergency and we are glad that they are there.

Key Repair

Key Repair

Key RepairI have always figured that when you break a key you get a new one. I had no idea that there was such a thing as key repair. After what I did I am glad there is. When I first got my car I had 2 keys. My one year old niece threw one of them down a Las Vegas storm drain. I was fine I still had a spare key. I never got a copy made because I always forgot about needing one. Then I went to start my car one day and my key broke off in the ignition. I panicked and then I called a locksmith.

The locksmith came quickly to my rescue. He got the other half of the key out of the ignition and then put the two pieces together and made me a new key. I was good to go. Over time though I was having trouble turning the key in the ignition. I discovered that this could be due to a number of issues. I learned that I needed to apply pressure to the key and turn the wheel until the key turns. I learned that I always need to make sure my car is in park. I learned that lock cylinders needed to be cleaned and lubricated sometimes. And then I learned that I may need a key repair.

You can tell if you need a key repair by laying your key on a flat surface. If it lays flat you are alright, but if it is arched to one side then you need to fix it. You can use wood or some other hard surface to strike the key and bend it back to the way it is supposed to be. Just don’t use a hammer. The other thing you should always do is make sure you have a second key just in case. Don’t be like me.
